Sara Elizabeth Fitzpatrick Scholarship Fund Guidelines

College Heights Foundation

Guidelines for the

Sara Elizabeth Fitzpatrick Scholarship Fund

1. This Scholarship Fund is administered by the College Heights Foundation as a building account. This fund is established by Audie Wood in honor of his Sister Sara Elizabeth Fitzpatrick who tragically passed away in a car accident in 2013. Sara was a graduate of Allen County Scottsville High School and enjoyed Art and Dance.

2. A pre-determined amount of scholarships will be awarded annually and any excess funds will be used to build toward an endowed account. If it is determined the endowed account is not feasible over a period of time, then the balance of the fund will be used as non-endowed and the remaining scholarships accordingly. If the minimum endowment level is reached, then the principal will remain intact with only the earnings from investment used to make scholarship awards in perpetuity.

3. The initial scholarships awarded will be $5,000. The awards will be made to five students in $1000 increments. The future number and amount of awards will be determined based upon the development of the Fund, the rate of earnings, and other factors that affect the availability of funds.

4. Recipients must be enrolled as full-time students at Western Kentucky University.

5. Recipients must be Junior or Senior status with a minimum 3.0 GPA.

6. The awards are not automatically renewable, but previous recipients may reapply each year for the scholarship.

7. One award will be made in each one of the five areas: Art, Dance, Sociology, Psychology, and Greek Affairs.

8. Recipients must possess the personal qualities of character, integrity, dependability, industriousness and human compassion which produce leaders and merit the honor of this award.

9. Applicants must complete a WKU scholarship application prior to the published deadline each year. Applications must be submitted to the University Scholarship Committee in order to be considered.

10. Students applying for the award may indicate on their application that they are applying for the Sara Elizabeth Fitzpatrick Scholarship Fund. Applicants must submit a brief essay (approximately 1 page) articulating how the recipient will utilize their degree within their discipline to help others around them.

11. Recipients will be selected by a Special Committee consisting of Audie Wood and the Department Head / Director from each of the five areas. The recommendations will be forwarded to the University Scholarship Committee to make the awards. In the event that Mr. Wood is no longer able to serve in this capacity, then the Department will make future selections.

12. Award notification will be sent in the form of a letter from the University Scholarship Committee, with the letter to contain appropriate recognition of Sara Elizabeth Fitzpatrick.
