Remembering Sherry Tabor

Graduating in 1979, Sherry Rush Tabor received her Bachelor’s degree in allied health from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky. She later furthered her education and received a Master’s degree from Western Kentucky University focusing on social work.

Shortly after graduation, Sherry began working at TJ Samson Community Hospital, a local healthcare facility in Glasgow, Kentucky. Starting out, her main focus was social work which later contributed to other tasks in which she excelled; case management, public relations, emergency management, as well and the founding of the well-known lullaby heard once one welcome a new arrival in labor and delivery at TJ.

Sherry married in September of 1978 to Danny L. Tabor of Scottsville, Kentucky. After settling in Lucas, Kentucky, and four years of marriage, their first child was born, a son, Andrew Beau Tabor, who welcomed a baby sister, Emily Rushford Tabor into the world, three years later.

Life took an unexpected turn for the Tabor family in August of 2006 with what turned to be a defining moment. Sherry was diagnosed with stage IV renal cell cancer that had metastasis to her lungs, and in July 2008, she left this earth to go to her Heavenly home.

Educating students and fulfilling her leadership duties as a caseworker at TJ was of the utmost importance to her. While she recognized the value of performance and leadership skills, she felt that the essence of good healthcare was in preparing as well as educating individual who would someday teach others, in one way or another.

The Sherry Rush Tabor memorial scholarship is available through Western Kentucky University for any high school graduate of Barren, Glasgow or Metcalfe County, including the Glasgow Christian Academy, or WKU student, pursing a degree in any aspect of healthcare.

This scholarship is made possible by way of contributions from friends and family in memory of Sherry Rush Tabor to benefit graduates from Barren County, Glasgow High, Metcalfe County, or Glasgow Christian Academy who have been personally affected by cancer.
