South Central KY Area Education Center hosts program for high school students
- Friday, September 9th, 2022
The South Central KY Area Health Education Center (AHEC) is hosting two programs for high school students interested in the healthcare field in Warren and Allen Counties. The two programs are being offered in partnership with the Warren County Public Library and Allen County Public Library.
The eight week program, called Future Healthcare Professionals (FHP) exposes high school students to a variety of health professions through the study of anatomy and physiology, hands-on activities, and guest speakers. Hands-on activities include learning how to suture, intubate, and measure vitals. Students also get to test their skills on a surgery simulator. All students in the program become CPR certified through the American Heart Association.
South Central KY AHEC Center Director, Catherine Malin, said, “FHP is a great opportunity for high school students to explore the healthcare field and learn what profession excites them most. They also learn about the educational pathways of the various health professions. We love seeing a student’s eyes light up when they listen to their heartbeat with a stethoscope for the first time.”
The program is free for all participants, but registration is limited to 20 students per program. More information and to register visit: https://www.wku.edu/scahec/fhp.php. For questions contact Emily Anne Pride Sutton at Emily.pride@wku.edu.
