Dr. Qingfang Song, Associate Professor of Child and Family Services at Western Kentucky University, was selected to receive a grant through the Kentucky IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (KY INBRE).
The objective of the KY INBRE-IDeA grant program is to provide support to promising junior investigators at Kentucky colleges and universities to establish a research program involving undergraduate students that is competitive for NIH funding.
The funded project will help researchers investigate the risk and resilience factors in relation to ethnic minority children's stress reactivity to race-based stressors, which can potentially inform practice and programs on racial health disparities. It can also provide research training and opportunities to undergraduate students who are interested in race and health.
Dr. Song shared, "I appreciate the great support from KY INBRE to make this study possible. It will utilize the collective effort from the researchers, undergraduate students, as well as local ethnic communities so that we can understand and develop better measures to help ethnic minority children and families cope with race-based stress."
