The Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions (ASAHP) announced that 21 members have been selected to participate in its 2023 Leadership Development Program (LDP). Dr. Kimberly Green, chair of the WKU Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders in the College of Health and Human Services is included in the 2023 LDP.
According to ASAHP, first created in 2005, this prestigious program provides a broad spectrum of training opportunities for future Deans and leaders in health professions education. Modules will include management skills, budgeting and conflict resolution, among other administrative topics that are critical for successful leadership.
The 2023 program will be implemented in two phases: Part I is scheduled for April 20-21 in Ft. Lauderdale Beach, FL, focusing on leadership styles and budgeting. Part II will take place October 17-19 also in Ft. Lauderdale Beach, FL, immediately prior to the 2023 ASAHP Annual Conference.
Between the programs in April and October, there will be numerous opportunities for participants to collaborate on team projects that will be based on timely events affecting institutions of higher education. Participants will have the opportunity to pursue issues of interest while also developing personal leadership skills.
“ASAHP’s Leadership Development Program (LDP) is creating a pathway for faculty in health professions education to gain the leadership skills essential for future leaders and Deans," said ASAHP President Deb Larsen PhD, FASAHP. “As a LDP graduate, the connections and deep dive into various topics prepared me well to progress from an Interim Director to Director of the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. The cohort-style program also allows the participants to develop a close network with their colleagues that continue years into the future, as many from my cohort have become dear friends and mentors.”
