CSD Senior Selected for National Student State Officer Position

Bowling Green, KY – Communication Sciences and Disorders Senior, Alexa Colvin, has been selected as Kentucky’s National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NSSLHA) Student State Officer. Colvin will serve a one-year term in which she will coordinate with other NSSLHA chapters, state associations, and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s Advisory Council.
Colvin has been on the President's List at WKU since 2014 and is a member of the Greek Academic Hall of Fame. She currently serves as President of Western Kentucky University’s NSSLHA Chapter. She is excited to serve in this national NSSLHA role commenting, “I wanted to become a NSSLHA SSO to not only expand my knowledge of the communication disorders field, but to grow professionally. I am excited to be an advocate for Kentucky's NSSLHA chapters and to continue to lead others within my field. I am going to strive to promote NSSLHA's core values of collaboration, integrity, and service through my Student State Officer responsibilities.”
As a NSSLHA Student State Officer, Colvin will guide local chapters regarding membership, fundraising, advocacy, and research. NSSLHA outlines six goals for officers including supporting chapters in Kentucky, growing involvement in and with the Kentucky Speech-Language-Hearing Association, supporting the American-Speech-Hearing Foundation, developing grassroots advocacy efforts in Kentucky, encouraging national NSSLHA membership, and strengthening involvement in Better Hearing and Speech Month.
