Funding & Student Support

Financial Support

WKU Chinese Flagship is a federally funded program that provides scholarship opportunities for our students' domestic and abroad summer study programs and Capstone year abroad. While this funding is not guaranteed, the typical student in our program does receive substantial funding to offset costs for summer study abroad, domestic summer language study, and the overseas Capstone year.

Opportunities for Students Enrolled in Flagship:
Boren Scholarships:

Boren Scholarships are recommended for Flagship students applying to Flagship Capstone programs. These awards provide $25,000 to U.S. undergraduate students to study abroad in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests. Many Flagship students successfully apply for Boren Scholarships. Boren Scholars commit to working in the federal government for at least one year after graduation. To learn more, visit https://www.borenawards.org/.

Project Global Officer (Project GO):

Flagship students who have contracted with their Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program are eligible for Project Global Officer (GO) awards. The Project GO program is a collaborative initiative that promotes critical language education, study abroad, and intercultural dialogue opportunities for ROTC students. Project GO programs are intensive immersive summer language programs. To learn more, visit https://www.rotcprojectgo.org/.

Army Foreign Language Flagship Scholarships:

Army Cadet Command, in partnership with the DLNSEO, offers scholarships to Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) students who enroll at one of the eligible Language Flagship centers. The Army will provide dedicated scholarships to ROTC students participating in The Language Flagship programs. These scholarships will provide support during the school year. DLNSEO will provide funding for the Flagship Overseas Capstone year, as well as cover attendance to Flagship approved summer intensive language programs to qualified ROTC students.
