WKU student Tramaine Hawkins of Hopkinsville was named the institution’s first Gilman-McCain Scholar, a designation awarded to 100 child and spousal dependents of active or activated U.S. military personnel for study abroad per academic year.

WKU student Ralphy Gardner of Todd County was named a 2023 Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Graduate Fellow. He is one of 45 fellows selected nationwide and only the third WKU student to earn this honor, the second in two years.

One hundred thirteen Hilltoppers submitted 139 applications for the nation’s most prestigious scholarship competitions during 2021-22, earning recognition 58 times with a total value of more than $383,175.

Three WKU students were awarded Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) scholarships, and another WKU student was awarded a Freeman Award for Study in Asia (Freeman-ASIA). The recipients were offered scholarships totaling $7,375 for study abroad.

Miriam Dawson and Autumn Eichhorn have been awarded $25,000 David L. Boren Scholarships to fund intensive language study in the United States and abroad during the 2022-2023 academic year. Heather Keen has been designated an alternate in the competition.
