About the Department

The Communication Disorders (CD) department at Western Kentucky University (WKU) was established in 1975. The department underwent a name change in July 2013 and now operates as the Communication Sciences and Disorders program, which is located in the WKU College of Health and Human Services (CHHS).  Two degrees are available in the department:  a Bachelor of Science in Communication Disorders and Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology.

Distance Learning opportunities were added to the Master of Science program in 1999 which allows students to take classes completely online or to complete a leveling Pre-SLP program to earn credits that can help them be eligible to apply for a graduate program.  Additional expansion also included adding American Sign Language Studies where student can earn a minor in American Sign Language.
