Project Management Essentials with CAPM Prep, Self-Paced, Online

In this course, you'll learn the knowledge and skills essential to project managers and those who work on projects in other support roles. The materials in this course are aligned with the international recognized standards of project management. This course is oriented to concepts and knowledge areas such as time, cost, risk and communications. Each lesson focuses exclusively on a single topic so that you can more easily grasp that topic before moving onto the next. Students who wish to take the PMP Certification exam will need to meet one of the following sets of requirements to take the exam (refer to the PMI website for more information):

  • A four-year degree
  • 36 months of leading projects
  • 35 hours of project management education/training or CAPM® Certification

— OR —

  • A high school diploma or an associate degree (or global equivalent)
  • 60 months of leading projects
  • 35 hours of project management education/training or CAPM® Certification

Frequently Asked Questions

Availability of format varies by topic. Read the course description carefully so that you understand the format for the course you select. Most courses are completely self-paced, fully online, and available whenever you are ready to enroll. Other formats include: 

  • “Instructor-Led” online courses have specific course begin dates and you participate as part of a cohort. These feature an instructor-moderated discussion board so you can interact with your fellow students.

  • “Live online” or “remote” courses have scheduled meeting times that include a live instructor.

  • In-person training is available in a few cases.

The training described on this webpage does not directly count toward a degree at WKU.

Most courses come with a certificate of completion and many courses will prepare you to sit for industry-recognized professional certification exams. Read the course description carefully and contact us with any questions.

Because these courses do not count toward a university/college degree, they are not eligible for the same type of financial aid.

Courses that prepare you to take a professional certification exam may be eligible for funding through your local Kentucky Career Center (WIOA, Voc Rehab, etc.).
