Dental Hygiene Clinic at WKU


The Dental Hygiene Program operates a clinic in which it's students treat patients under the supervision of dental hygiene faculty members. Every effort is made to accommodate patients, however, patients are appointed on the basis of the instructional needs of the student.  Please note that being seen in WKU's Dental Hygiene Clinic is not a substitute for your primary care dentist. O.S.H.A. and A.D.A. infection control guidelines are adhered to.

The services performed are determined by the student's treatment plan in consultation with the clinical instructor. The patient's needs and the student's instructional needs are considered in this determination. Services performed in our clinic MAY include the following:

  • Vital signs
  • Intra-Extra Oral Examinations
  • Individualized Home Care Instructions
  • Dental Charting
  • Periodontal Charting
  • Prophylaxis (Scaling and Polishing)
  • Periodontal Maintenance Procedures
  • Appliance Cleaning
  • Fluoride Treatment
  • Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen Sedation
  • Local Anesthesia Administration
  • Desensitizing Treatment
  • Tooth Vitality Testing
  • Fabrication of study models
  • Radiographs (bitewings, periapicals, occlusal and panoramic)
  • Intraoral Photos
  • Sealants
  • Dietary Counseling
  • Tobacco Cessation
  • Referral (as necessary)

  •  Emergency Dental care
  • Restorative procedures
  • School dental examinations
  • Teeth Whitening services

As a patient at the Western Kentucky University Program of Dental Hygiene Clinic you have the right to:

  • receive oral health care based on high levels of professional knowledge, judgment, and skill
  • receive treatment in an environment that minimizes the risk of harm
  • receive treatment without discrimination
  • receive treatment that will be provided in a confidential manner and will remain confidential
  • continuity and completion of your treatment
  • be treated in a respectful manner
  • be treated in an ethical manner employing the highest standards of care
  • be provided with the information necessary to make informed decisions about your oral health
  • fully participate in treatment decisions and goals
  • be informed in advance of the cost of treatment
  • receive referral to other oral health care providers when your needs are beyond our ability or scope of practice
  • receive education about your specific oral health care needs
  • an explanation of recommended treatment, treatment alternatives, the option to refuse treatment, the risk of no treatment, and expected outcomes of various treatments
  • be informed of policies on bloodborne and infectious diseases.

Screening: $10.00 (will be applied towards cleaning for NEW patients)

WKU Student: $25.00

Public: $35.00

Fees are to be paid to the Clinical Receptionist (AC 218) upon check in. We accept cash, credit / debit cards and checks.

Appointment Information

To receive dental hygiene treatment in our clinic, you may come by in person  to the  Academic Complex Room 218 or by calling (270) 745-2426. Appointment times are subject to student availability. New patients must complete an one hour screening before cleaning appointments can be scheduled. The screening cost is $10 which will be applied towards the cleaning.  Please call for availability. The office hours are Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Patients will be checked in at 8:15 a.m. and 12:45 p.m.

 

Clinic Hours

Fall Semester (September - November)

Monday & Wednesday only. Appointment times 8:30 a.m. and or 1:00 p.m.

Spring Semester (February - April)

Monday & Wednesday. Appointment times 8:30 a.m. and or 1:00 p.m.

Tuesday & Thursday. Appointment time 8:30 a.m.

Summer

Monday - Thursday from 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

 

Free parking is available in the Clinical Services parking lot located in front of the GGC Health Services building (1681 Normal St.  Bowling Green, KY 42101). Patients are required to register their vehicle before parking by calling 270-745-2426 and provide color/make/model/license plate number to avoid a parking fine.

On this campus map, the Clinical Services lot is marked in teal.  This walking map shows in detail how to get from Health Services to the Dental Hygiene Clinic in the Academic Complex.  The clinic receptionist is located in room 218, in the Academic Complex 2nd floor lobby area.

Directions from I-65:

  • Take EXIT 26, toward Bowling Green, then 0.29 miles turn right onto KY-234/Cemetery Rd.
  • Continue to follow KY-234, then 2.30 miles turn left onto US-31W S/US 31W Bypass.
  • Continue to follow US-31W S., then 1.89 miles enter the roundabout and take the 1st exit onto University Blvd/US-231
  • Then take the 1st right onto Normal St.  At the first red light intersection with Regents Ave, turn left, then immediately right into the Clinic Services Lot in front of the GGC Health Services building.
