Air Permit
WKU is subject to a Conditional Major Air Permit , which may need amendment when installing, or making alterations to a piece of equipment (especially something that has a stack) such as boilers, generators, paint booths, solvent baths, etc. It can take up to four months to receive a permit from KY DAQ, after all the information is provided to EHS staff. Please contact Laura Hale at 270-745-2236 for permit assistance, and more information about Environmental Programs.
Hazardous & Chemical Waste Management
The EHS Department maintains the RCRA Generator permit and ID numbers for all WKU campuses. We can assist with proper disposal of regulated wastes in compliance with the Resource Conservation & Recovery Act.
Submit an online waste pick-up request if:
- you work in a laboratory, or art studio and generate chemical wastes
- you work with facilities Management and have chemicals for disposal
Consult the EHS Department if you are a project manager, or contractor, and your project has the potential to generate large quantities of regulated/hazardous wastes, such as PCBs, lamps, etc. Allow adequate time for planning.
For additional information or assistance, please contact Jonathan Oglesby at 270-745-8730.
Oil Spill Prevention & Control (SPCC)
Petroleum products are stored in large quantities in tanks as well as in drums, electrical equipment, such as pad switches, transformers, and diesel emergency generators. The SPCC Plan was devised to document preventive measures and spill clean-up resources on WKU's campus. If you are going to add a new oil storage location, or a piece of equipment that holds more than a few gallons of oil, please contact Jonathan Oglesby at 270-745-8730 to include this location in the SPCC Plan. He can also help you locate and purchase absorbent pads, socks etc.
