Checkout some of our students who conducted internships this summer of 2024

Dayvon Woodard, Geological Sciences: NSF REU at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. There, he is conducting research on fingerprint dust sources using microbiology and geochemistry under credible professors and mentors.

Sydney Anderson, Geological Sciences: USGS EDMAP funded project in Kentucky to become the next-generation geologic mapper. She is conducting remote sensing and field studies with graduate student John Lunday under the supervision of Dr. N. Gani.

Druin McGill, Geological Sciences: Internship with the Planning, Design, And Construction Department at WKU working as a GIS Technician.

Hayden Bean, Geological Sciences: Internship with CRH/Mulzer Crushed Stone working as a mining engineer in Cape Sandy, Indiana. During a summer internship with CRH as a mining engineer, Hayden developed mine plans, obtained a 107b license for post-blast performance measurement using drone imagery, and surveyed multiple quarries in Southern Indiana. He also assisted in quality control, contributing to gradations, drill sampling, XRF analysis for high-calcium limestone, and floor control for active mining ledges.

Riley Summers, conducted and internship with KGS at their Western Kentucky office.

Clay Kilgore, Geological Sciences, Trail crew member working with the Appalachian Mountain Club under the Americorps NCCC Forestry Corps in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

Mykah Carden, Geological Sciences,  interned with the Cave Research Foundation, assisting in the Data Visualization Karst Field Studies course.

Kieran Heintz, Geological Sciences/ESGS, Team member of Bike4Alz Team 12 riding coast to coast from San Fransisco CA to Virginia Beach VA for Alzheimers. We’ll be bike riding over 3,800 miles over the summer, raising money for Alzheimers research along the way.

Ava Lich, Geological Sciences, Internship with Extrakt Process Solutions in Bowling Green working as a lab technician. She is participating in numerical analysis at the Hanyang University Summer School (HISS) program, studying abroad in South Korea for a month.

Luke Marcum, Geological Sciences/Meteorology, plan to join an internship with the National Weather Service in Jackson, Kentucky.

Barrett Gibbs, Geological Sciences, FUSE grant project on karst-related landslides in the Appalachian region under Dr. N. Gani. He also worked in the Lost River Cave.

Will Strehl, Geological Sciences: Internship with Extrakt Process Solutions in Bowling Green, KY as a lab technician, and an internship with EnSafe in Bowling Green, KY as an environmental scientist.

Spencer Girten, learned to fly quadcopter drones.

Mackenzie Senig, worked in the Advising and Career Development Center (ACDC).
