Kai Liang was born and raised in Qingdao, Shandong, a beautiful coastal city in East China. He got his B.A. degree in the Education of Chinese Language and Literature from Qingdao University. He taught Chinese language, literature, and culture in China for nine years. He currently holds M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Pedagogy of Chinese Language and Culture from Ohio State University. He has been teaching Chinese language and culture to American undergraduate and graduate students since 2012. He is passionate about teaching Chinese as a foreign language in the United States. His teaching philosophy is proficiency-based, student-centered, and goal-oriented. He co-authored the intermediate-advanced spoken Mandarin textbook Tiyan Qingdao (Perform Qingdao, published in 2021). He likes traditional Chinese fine arts and calligraphy; he is also a member of the Qingdao Writer's Association. Dozens of his poems and short stories in Chinese are published in literary magazines and books.
