This evening, we kick off our annual 49-Hour Film Challenge. Inspired by the wildly popular international 48-Hour Film Project, it involves a random drawing of five elements (prop, character, genre, location and line of dialogue) followed by two days of filmmaking. But since our event occurs over the weekend of daylight saving time, ours is a 49-Hour Film Challenge.
This event is open to everyone – students, faculty, staff and the community at large. Professionals and rank amateurs. Anyone who wants to participate is welcome. The only caveat is that you must provide your own gear.
All of the details are here: http://www.49hourfilm.com/
Please come check it out, share with your friends, etc. And even if you can’t make it tonight, please stop by on Monday, to watch the finished films (and enjoy free pizza):

The Journalism Scholars Day Conference, a 41-year tradition at WKU, will attract more than 300 Kentucky high school journalism students from schools across the state to campus Friday, November 15.
The four-hour conference includes over 20 breakout sessions, a $500 scholarship writing contest and the Mark of Excellence yearbook awards ceremony in Mass Media & Technology Hall and Gary Ransdell Hall. The conference goal is to encourage excellence in high school media classes. It also provides high school students with the opportunity to increase their knowledge and skills. Staffers and their advisers will attend sessions with topics ranging from cinematography, sports news, photography, web design, and feature writing to social media.
Journalism Scholars Day, coordinated by Charlotte Turtle, is co-sponsored by the School of Journalism & Broadcasting, the Kentucky High School Media Institute, WKU, WKU’s chapter of Society of Professional Journalists, the College Heights Herald and Talisman.
Originally called High School Press Day, the conference was renamed Journalism Scholars Day in the late 1980s. Having a day devoted to high school journalism is a WKU tradition that dates to the 1970s.
A component of the 21st Century Media Program of Distinction at WKU, the Kentucky High School Media Institute is funded by Kentucky’s Council on Post-Secondary Education Regional Excellence Trust Fund. The Institute’s primary goal is to support and supplement scholastic journalism endeavors in Kentucky.
