WKU College Youth in Government students lobby Congressmen
- Thursday, April 2nd, 2015
This past March, Sophomore students Zach Jones, WIlliam Berry, Austin Hatfield and Jody Dahmer represented the WKU College Youth in Government chapter at the 2nd Annual Washington Legislative Advocacy Summit (WLAS) hosted by the National YMCA College Youth In Government Program. Both Zach and Austin authored legislation that was passed at the YMCA Youth In Government National Assembly, where Jody Dahmer was elected National President of the program. They were invited to travel to Washington D.C. to present this legislation as well as gain support for College YIG as a whole at the summit. They met with legislative aides from both Senator Paul and Senator McConnell’s office as well as Representatives Whitfield and Guthrie.
YMCA College Youth in Government (CYIG) program, a national student-run model government program that engages college students by developing their public service skills throughout the year and culminates in a National Assembly in Washington DC. This program focuses on training servant leaders and focuses on policy, not politics. This program is open to students of all majors and new meetings will begin in the fall!
