WKU BROADCASTING MAJORS WIIN AWARDS FROM KY AP BROADCASTERS

Winners of the Kentucky Associated Press Broadcasters (KAPB) awards recognizing outstanding performance in professional and college broadcast journalism were announced Saturday, April 30, in Louisville.
The KAPB college competition recognized nine WKU broadcast majors for television and radio coverage. The students earned five first place awards competing against other schools across the state. A total of 14 awards were earned in 11 categories.

Best Website: first place: Hope Bradford of Kenton, WKU.
Best College Television Reporter: second place: Josh Holland of Nashville, Tenn., WKU.
Best College Videographer: second place: Dan Blommel of Dayton, Ohio, WKU.
Best College Newscast: second place: Cory McCauley of Cynthiana, WKU.
Best Public Affairs: first place: Ian Dowty of Valley Center, Kan., WKU, "Campus Crosswalk Safety."
Best Sports Coverage: first place:. Ian Dowty and Dan Blommel, WKU, "Vette City Roller Derby"; second place: Dakota Sherek of Louisville, WKU, "Swimming Lessons"; third place: Josh Holland, Dan Blommel and Fletcher Keel of Atlanta, Ga., WKU, "Birmingham Economics."
Best Feature Story: second place: Dan Blommel, WKU, "Fresh Caught Salmon"; third place: Josh Holland, WKU, "Time Laps -Bill Powell Birthday Tradition."

Best College Radio Reporter: first place: Haddy Badjie of Lewisville, Texas, WKU –Radio.
Best College Newscast: second place: Paige Hagan of Louisville and Haddy Badjie, WKU –Radio.
Best Sports Coverage: first place: Paige Hagan, WKU -Radio, "Action on Athletic Stipends, Pay to Play."
Best Feature Story: third place: Paige Hagan, WKU -Radio, "Future of College Athletics."
