WKU CCSJ to spotlight project-based learning in 'Social Justice Salons' series

The WKU Center for Citizenship & Social Justice will host the first Spring 2019 lecture in its “Social Justice Salons” series from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 19 at Downing Student Union, room 2123.
The February lecture will be led by Dr. Tim Evans of the Folk Studies Department. Dr. Evans will present “Education and Community: Service Learning as a High Impact Practice.”
February’s salon is an excellent opportunity for faculty engaged in project-based learning to get some insight into partnering with community-based organizations. It’s also an opportunity for students to explore service learning as a type of course experience in which they may want to enroll in the future. It’s also an opportunity for community leaders to determine if service learning partnerships would benefit their organizations.
During the “Social Justice Salons” series, WKU faculty, staff, students and community members gather and discuss complex contemporary issues surrounding citizenship and social justice. The typical format of “Social Justice Salons” includes a short presentation on a topic, followed by facilitated discussion. The series will be held monthly during the 2019 Spring semester.
The event is open to anyone interested. Refreshments will be provided.
