WKU English congratulates Alayna Milby on being named a founding member of the WKU Alumni Association Diversity and Inclusion Council. Alayna graduated in 2014 with a major in English literature and minors in Gender & Women's Studies and Sexuality Studies.
She serves as the Director of Community Engagement at Hope Harbor, Inc., and since graduating has been generous in working with English majors to explore careers in community engagement and social justice.
Regarding the new Council, Alayna says "Knowing the historical role higher education has played in upholding oppressive systems and being aware of the present barriers many folks (staff, faculty, and students) with marginalized identities face to create a space for themselves on campus, a dedicated council to improving experiences is simply one component. As a founding member of the WKU Alumni Association Diversity and Inclusion Council, I envision our efforts will lift up those who are already doing this work on WKU's campuses and empower others to do more."
Thanks for all your great work, Alayna! Here is more info on the new Diversity and Inclusion Council: http://alumni.wku.edu/s/808/index.aspx?sid=808&gid=1&pgid=5087&cid=8557&ecid=8557&crid=0&calpgid=3340&calcid=6969
