- Monday, October 19th, 2020
WKU Music Professor John Cipolla has served (by invitation) as a jury member for three international clarinet competitions this year.
This month, he served as a jury member for the 16th International Clarinet Competition “Saverio Mercadante.” The competition was sponsored by The Musical Cultural Association AULOS, in collaboration with the Municipality of Noci (Bari, Italy). The competition was moved to an online version because of the international pandemic.
In May, Dr. Cipolla served as a jury member for two international clarinet competitions -- ClarinetOnline (sponsored by Academia Italiana del Clarinetto in Cesena, Italy) and Perusia Harmonica (sponsored by the Comune di Perugia in Perugia, Italy). Each of these competitions attracted applicants from over a dozen countries. Dr. Cipolla was the only American jury member for each of these competitions. Dr. Cipolla, who served as president of the International Clarinet Association, is regularly invited to perform and teach throughout the United States and abroad as well as serve on juries for national and international competitions.
