Alumni Profile: Hannah Bergamini

WKU graduate Hannah Bergamini might look typical of first-year students at University of Louisville Medical School: She majored in biology. However, the Bowling Green native also majored in French and Spanish. “I fell in love with learning Spanish in high school, and I knew that it was something I wanted to study more in depth in college. I originally had not intended to pick up French, but after spending a summer interning with the International Center of Kentucky, I realized that there was a need for more French speakers here in Kentucky due to the large number of Francophone refugees.” During her time at WKU, Bergamini studied abroad in Spain and Panama and felt inspired by the Modern Languages faculty. “The professors here at WKU are amazing. They are very interested in helping you succeed, and they are always willing to help you if you need it!” After completing medical school, she would like to work with patients who have limited proficiency in English. Without French and Spanish majors, she probably wouldn’t have gone to medical school. She encourages WKU students to study languages and asserts that “speaking another language opens up a world of opportunities and gives you the skillset that you need to better understand and connect with people from other cultures.”
