The department welcomed the award-winning Kentucky Archaeological Survey effective June 1. Since 1995, the Survey has worked with teachers, students, landowners, and government agencies to protect archaeological sites and educate citizens across Kentucky.

In April 2019, Jennifer N. Molchan of the Department of Folk Studies and Anthropology was awarded a competitive $2,000 Field Research Fellowship from the American Center for Mongolian Studies.

WKU Music Professor John Cipolla performed as a jazz clarinet soloist and taught jazz improvisation classes at the Academia Ibero-Americana do Clarinete music festival April 9–14 in Castelo de Paiva, Portugal.

Cameron Knight graduated from WKU in December 2005 with a BA in Photojournalism and Anthropology. He was recently part of an investigative team at the Cincinnati Enquirer that was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for their project "Seven Days of Heroin."
