Amanda Binion ‘11

Amanda Binion graduated in 2011. She obtained an associate degree in Paralegal Studies and a Bachelor Degree in Sociology with a minor in Criminology. Amanda interned at the Warren Circuit Court Clerk’s office wherein she was a bench clerk for Judge B. Potter.

Amanda’s current position is a Probation and Parole Officer II. She has been with the Department of Corrections for five years. Once Amanda gained her paralegal degree at WKU, she started working as a paralegal for a local attorney in Bowling Green. Some of her job duties as a paralegal allowed her to gain ties in the community as well as at the Warren Circuit Court Clerk’s office. Frome there, she gained employment with the Warren Circuit Court Office. in which she worked for three years. Her job duties led her to Probation and Parole.

The most enjoyable things about working in Probations for Amanda is how everyday is different. There will never be a dull moment, as something will always surprise her. She also enjoys working with the community and building a rapport with the offenders she supervises. Amanda’s favorite memories from WKU are having classes with Dr. Bohlander.

Amanda’s tip for college students wanting to work in community corrections is not to give up. Most officers at Probation and Parole have to go through the interview process several timesbefore getting hired.
