Nathan Cadena '18

Nathan Cadena reflects on his time in the Department and how his career developed. “I graduated from WKU in May ‘18 with a BA, majoring in Psychology and Criminology. I am currently a Behavioral Health Specialist (BHS) working in the Child and Family Department. Prior to this position, I was a Pharmacy Technician at CVS for 3 years. I saw the opening for a BHS on an online job posting. I applied, got interviewed, and started on August 6^th. What I enjoy most about LifeSkills is the sense of community fostered by my colleagues. This connectivity is from the top down. There is more than just a sense of us working together with the ultimate goal of bettering the mental health of our clients and increasing the accessibility to mental health care to vulnerable communities. A special memory I have of the Sociology Department at WKU is sitting in Dr. Kanan’s office discussing my future, when the late Dr. Bohlander walked in and began joking with us about something that happened in our Penology class. These memories of laughing about something irreverent with some of my favorite professors just makes me want to go back and hang out in Grise Hall again. I admire everyone in the Department of Sociology, especially Dr. Kanan for his kindness and openness, and, of course, Dr. Bohlander for the legacy he left.”
