WKU Sociology Alumni Profiles
Matt Davis '05
Matt Davis offers important advice to current WKU students who are considering a career in policing, “Take every opportunity that you possibly can to network while in college and establish those key relationships that may assist you later in obtaining employment. Also, have confidence in the education you receive at WKU and never be afraid to apply somewhere away from Bowling Green to get a new perspective. After all, you can always get some years of experience at another location and then later return to your roots.”
Matt majored in Anthropology and minored in Criminology while at WKU. He loved how approachable and personable the professors were in the Sociology Department, and how they always seemed to have time to help. Dr. Bohlander, in particular, arranged an internship for Matt with the Bowling Green Police Department, and he was hired directly after completing his internship and graduating. He also served as a Police Cadet at BGPD while attending WKU. Matt has already completed 13 years of service with the BGPD and is currently a Master Police Officer. He enjoys the fact that “every day is a brand new adventure in this job. I am also able to be out in our community and see firsthand where our services are needed most and how I can assist in this effort.”
