WKU Sociology & Criminology Alumni Profiles
Jordyn O'Boyle '18
Jordyn O'Boyle graduated from Western Kentucky University in the Fall of 2018. She earned a bachelor in criminology and minored in sociology. During her time at WKU, Jordyn completed an internship at the Court Designated Workers office in Bowling Green, Kentucky. This is where she began her professional career.
Jordyn began working with AOC while she was still in college. She started with her
internship and discovered a passion. In October 2018 she decided to explore non-profit
organizations, and accepted a job working for The Center for Women and Families as
a
legal advocate. After she graduated with her bachelor degree she returned to AOC as
a Court Designated Specialist in March 2019.
She currently works as a Court Designated Specialist for The Administrative Office
of the Courts in Louisville, Kentucky. She started working for AOC in April 2018 and
returned in March 2019 after five months of being away from the organization. She
says
the best part of her job is getting to know the kids she works with. Jordyn points
out that there isn’t a cookie-cutter approach to her job. The kids she works with
all come from different backgrounds and have different struggles. “They are all unique,
and no
situation is ever the same with any of them. It’s incredibly humbling.”
When asked about her time at WKU Jordyn says her favorite memory was a penology class
trip. The class visited the Kentucky State Penitentiary with Dr. Bohlander. “He was
hilarious and very passionate about his work, and he made that trip spectacular!”
Jordyn’s advice for current and incoming students is to network. Many organizations
work together and knowing people can help your job hunt. She also recommends completing
and being very involved in an internship. “Most people will remember you from your
internship, which is extremely helpful in finding a job after graduation!”
