Molly Latham, Outstanding Student, MA in Sociology

Molly

My name is Molly Latham and I first want to say what an honor it is to have been selected as the Outstanding Student pursuing the Sociology Master of Arts award. I have been so blessed being a part of such a wonderful department with such caring, and intelligent professors to study under. I received my bachelor’s degrees in Criminology and Sociology last May and will be concluding my Masters in Sociology this May after defending my thesis.  I have had the privilege to work diligently under Dr. Drummond with my thesis this year, it is titled “Knowledge is Power:  A Study of Juvenile Justice Facilities and Educational Programs”. It is my hopes to pursue a career in the field of juvenile delinquency and help youthful offenders find placements that suit their specific needs. During my time here at WKU I joined the national honor society, Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD). I also had the opportunity to serve as an intern at the Warren Regional Juvenile Detention Center, this was a rewarding position and opened my eyes to the world around me. It ultimately paved the way for the passion behind my master’s thesis project.  For the past two years I have had the opportunity to serve as a graduate assistant in the Sociology and Criminology department. Through graduate school I have gained a confidence in my work, my knowledge, and have made lasting connections.
