Sabre Semrau, Outstanding Major in Diversity and Community Studies
Congratulations Sabre Semrau, our Outstanding Major in the Diversity and Community
Studies Program.
My involvement in Diversity and Community Studies has helped me make genuine connections
with faculty, staff, classmates, and peers that have made my time at WKU feel truly
important and meaningful. I have grown so much as an individual through my expanding
engagement as an activist through which I have learned how to make my voice heard
and uplift the voices of others. I now better understand how to stand up for my beliefs
and represent myself and my morals in a manner that inspires my comrades to do the
same. While at WKU, I have had the incredible opportunity of serving as Chair of the
Young Democratic Socialists of America, Publications Director of the Queer Student
Union, Art Manager of the Sunrise Movement, Secretary of Pride At Work, Physical Media
Chair of Horticulture Club, a DJ on Revolution 91.7, and director of the Queer Movie
Night and Socialist Movie Night screening series’. It was through the amazing folks
in the DCS department that I was able to start printing my radical queer zine, “Friends
of Dorothy,” and it was at various DCS events that I found my first audience to distribute
copies of that publication. I exist at the intersection of art and activism, and my
journey to finding true fulfillment and joy in this pursuit through my DCS experiences
has been so exciting and empowering. After graduation, I hope to help lead the people’s
revolution!
