Assistants at the Summer String Institute

Pay: $325 + room and board
Description:
The WKU String Academy seeks college-aged student assistants for the Summer String Institute (SSI). This paid internship offers real-world experience running a summer camp and working with talented students ages 3–16. Interns will gain hands-on experience in the education field through classroom teaching and operational management.
Held on the campus of Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, KY, the SSI is a day-camp summer music festival for string students. It consists of two concurrent sessions: Twinklers (ages 3–8) meet in violin group classes of 10–15 students from 9am to 11:30am; Young Musicians (ages 8–16) meet from 9am to 3:30pm in string orchestra and other musical enrichment activities. Assistant responsibilities may include: collaborating with a lead teacher in a Twinkler class, coaching orchestra sectionals, encouraging and engaging young music students, and more. Assistants will also coordinate drop-off and pick-up and work with a supervisor to accomplish assigned tasks. You will be finished each day no later than 3:45pm (except for the final concert day, July 25).

- Ability to work with lead teachers
- Leading creative and fun musical games
- Well-organized, energetic, independent, and responsive to feedback and direction

Hours
July 20: Faculty meeting, 3pm–6pm (dinner will be provided)
July 21–24: 8:30a–3:45p (lunch will be provided)
July 25: 8:30a–5:00p (lunch will be provided)
