WKU | Smoke & Tobacco Free

In the fall of 2018, a Tobacco-Free Taskforce was formed at Western Kentucky University to provide tobacco-free communication and cessation efforts, as well as a compliance program for all WKU campuses. This included the engagement and education of a majority of students, faculty, and staff on the benefits and need for a tobacco-free policy through forums, petitions, presentations, and social media. The task force drafted a smoke and tobacco-free policy acceptable to the faculty senate, staff council, the Student Government Association and the Board of Regents. The Smoke & Tobacco-Free Policy has since been approved and was implemented beginning January 1, 2020. Outside of an individual and community health perspective, the policy is in direct alignment with the goals outlined in the 2018 WKU Strategic Plan. A smoke & tobacco-free campus will not only improve the quality of life for our community, but it will promote overall employee wellness and will contribute to the success of our students. Please visit our FAQ for answers to questions that you may have regarding the policy, cessation, and compliance.
