What does AMSA stand for?

The WKU chapter of the American Medical Student Association was founded with the intention to make its members more competitive in terms of medical school application strength. WKU AMSA is geared towards finding opportunities and experiences to present to members that will help them stand out among other pre-medical students.

What does AMSA do?

AMSA is currently providing free physician shadowing sessions to members because of how difficult shadowing has become due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We are also providing a free suturing clinic to all interested members that will occur once every other semester. Many individuals, professors, advisors, health professionals have reached out to AMSA wanting to provide extracurricular opportunities for the current members of the chapter. AMSA also holds the yearly "Out of the Darkness Walk", which will be the main event of the final day of WKU's mental health awareness week.

What will AMSA provide for me?

AMSA provides all members with not only opportunities that will improve their pre-professional resume, but it also provides a tight knit group of like-minded individuals who are all oriented towards the same goal. AMSA also gives students the opportunity to run for various leadership positions and lead certain projects that are under AMSA's responsibility. Opportunities are also not limited to what the chapter can provide to a member; if a member sees something that would be impactful or helpful to either AMSA or the community in general but can't carry it out on their own, AMSA helps them with whatever they need. Everyone knows that the journey to medical school is hard, AMSA is here to make that journey easier.
