Prospective Students
Prospective Students
We are excited you are interested in the WKU SAV-Y program!
The WKU SAV-Y program is designed specifically for students between the ages of 18 and 26 with intellectual disabilities who want to continue their education as a Hilltopper. Our three-year program allows students to participate in the college life while taking classes alongside other WKU students. Students will meet with an advisor who will work with the student to devise a plan that aligns with career interests. Each year of the program focuses on a different aspect of the college experience.
SOCIAL - Year One focuses on the social aspects of being a WKU student at WKU and includes specific programming related to campus safety, interactions, and the importance of extra-curricular activities in addition to introducing the college classroom experience.
ACADEMIC - Year Two provides a more immersive academic experience where students will select courses that align with their desired career paths and register for those courses alongside students without disabilities. The WKU career path categories are:
- Agriculture and Science
- Business and Tourism
- Childcare and Education
- Creative Arts and Humanities
- Food Service
- Health Care
- Recreation and Sports
- Technology and Digital Arts
- Interdisciplinary (courses from all career areas)
VOCATIONAL - Year Three merges the HIlltopper and academic experience into the vocational experience. During the transition-to-work year, students will complete internships and experiential projects to initiate their transition into the workforce. WKU is committed to helping our CTP students find careers in our community and region.
At the conclusion of the WKU SAV-Y program, students should be able to build safe relationships, have developed required skills specific to their chosen career path, and be prepared to enter the workforce.
Getting Ready
To prepare for the college experience, all prospective students are encouraged to discuss higher education with their high school teacher, guidance counselor, job coach, and/or caregiver to determine this type of program is the best option. Students participating in this program must be able to independently navigate WKU's campus, follow a schedule, and be between the ages of 18 and 26.
Check out the resources available at https://thinkcollege.net/family-resources for more preparation tips.

Students in the WKU SAV-Y program will pay tuition plus a program fee. However, federal aid, scholarships, and grants may be available. All potential students should apply for the FAFSA by the end of March. The following list will help provide tuition information along with funding sources:
