Eligibility and Selection Process

 

ELIGIBILITY

Applications will be made available to faculty in the fall prior to the program. Examples of successful applications from past seminars are available here on the application webpage. The number of spots available will vary from year to year and will be announced at the time that applications are made available.

 To be eligible for the ZSEIFS, the following requirements must be met:

  • Full-time faculty member employed by WKU;
  • Department and College endorsement (to be indicated on application form);
  • Cost-share from university or grant-based sources;
  • Capable of meeting the potential physical demands of the Seminar--which may vary depending on location. For more information on the expected physical demands, contact OIP (internationalization@wku.edu) or the designated Faculty Leader.
 **No children/dependents will be permitted to accompany ZSEIFS participants.

 SELECTION PROCESS

 Applications will be evaluated by OIP, an International Education Advisory Council Representative, and multiple ZSEIFS alumni, based on this scoring rubric.

 

NOTE: Although we will give preference to faculty members limited (or no) international professional experience, faculty with international experience are eligible for participation in the ZSEIFS. 


 ZSEIFS FALL SEMESTER TIMELINE

September 1

ZSEIFS application made available on website

October 15

ZSEIFS applications due

See application for instructions on how to submit a ZSEIFS application. Announcement of select participants will be made no later than the first week of November. 

December 1

Deadline to accept participation

Participants who confirm acceptance must submit their spring semester teaching schedule.

 

ZSEIFS SPRING SEMESTER TIMELINE

December/January

Spring Semester Meeting Schedule

The ZSEIFS faculty leader and OIP will set the shcedule for meetings based around the faculty participants' schedules. Participants may meet up to two times per month. 

February

Monthly Meetings Begin

Participants in the ZSEIFS cohort will begin meeting to deepen their understanding of the target-country and analyze it from their respective disciplines. 

February 15

Passports

All participants must have a valid passport. 

March

ZSEIFS Bibliography Due

Spring meetings continue. ZSEIFS participants' comprehensive biblography is due. 

April

Pre-Departure

The faculty leader will conduct a pre-departure prior to the in-country portion. 

Summer

In-Country

While in country, participants will be meet with scholars and professionals, pursue their individual goals, connect and network with co-participants, and visit key cultural sites. 

July - August

60 Days Post-ZSEIFS Progress Updates

Program evaluations and 60 days post-ZSEIFS progress updates are due to OIP. 

August

Integration & Application

Upon return from the in-country portion, ZSEIFS participants will integrate their newly gained knowledge into courses, contribute to IYO based programming, and continue pursuing ZSEIFS related goals.
