Dr. Lynette Breedlove, Director of The Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky, has been elected President-Elect of The Association for the Gifted (TAG), a division of the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC). 

Dr. Breedlove will serve as President-Elect for two years before transitioning into the role of President in 2019, a role she will hold for two years.  Previously, Breedlove served as Treasurer on the TAG Board of Directors.

TAG, as a division of CEC, has been the leading voice for special and gifted education in the nation.  Their primary purpose is to promote the welfare and education of children and youth with gifts, talents, and/or high potential.

“I am very excited to have the opportunity to continue to serve TAG.  It is an honor to follow in the footsteps of great leaders in the field of gifted education who led TAG in the past,” said Dr. Breedlove. “TAG has a rich history of contributing to gifted education, particularly in the areas of identifying and serving under-represented populations and students who are twice exceptional (students who are gifted and have other learning exceptionalities). My goal will be for TAG to continue to be a voice for these special populations.” 

TAG has been a part of the CEC for more than 50 years.  The CEC provides crucial support and advocacy for children and youth with exceptionalities, which are those students who are served in gifted, special, and general education classes.  While support and advocacy are important, CEC-TAG also supports educators through professional standards, resources, and professional development.  CEC also works to ensure educational legislation supports exceptional children.
