Jihye is a second-year graduate student, and she is on the research-intensive track working in Dr. Kim’s lab. Her research is to engineer a new class of DNA-binding protein transcriptional activator-like effectors (TALEs) to be able to recognize antibiotic-resistance genes. Utilizing the engineered TALEs along with 2D nanosheet graphene oxide, her research project is developing a new sensing technology for simple, rapid, and sensitive detection of the antibiotic resistance gene tetracycline resistance gene (tetM).
