Collaborative Regional Evidence-Cased Trauma Treatment (CRETT)

Through a Criminal Justice Act (CJA) grant, the Integrated Family Trauma Treatment Clinic (IFTTC), a partnership between the Western Kentucky University’s LifeSkills Center for Child Welfare Education and Research (LCCWEAR) and the Cabinet of Health & Family Services (CHFS), seeks to offer clinicians free evidence-based trauma treatment training, access to psychometric measures, and consultation to utilize when working with families involved in the child welfare system. The purpose of this project is to improve the provision of best practice standards for clinicians providing services in the Barren River region.

Project Description: The focus of the project is to offer free training to mental health professionals in one of three different evidence-based treatment modalities. Clinicians will also obtain access to psychometric assessment measures to inform treatment and periodically assess progress and outcomes. Clinicians will receive monthly consultation for ongoing support in their utilization of evidence-based trauma treatment and measurement-based care. For this project, the client must be a child, family, or adult with involvement with the child welfare system. Clinicians participating in the project will receive training in one of the following treatment modalities:

  • Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
  • Alternatives for Families: A Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (AF-CBT)
  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)

Following completion of training, clinicians will be provided with psychometric measures to utilize for measurement-based care. Clinicians will be expected to utilize the assessment measures at client intake, periodically through treatment, and following discharge. The following psychometric measures will be provided for each treatment modality:

TF-CBT

  • The Child PTSD Symptom Scale (CPSS)
  • The Child PTSD Symptom Scale (CPSS) Parent Report
  • Strengths & Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ)

AF-CBT

  • Alabama Parenting Questionnaire
  • The Child PTSD Symptoms Scale (CPSS)
  • The Child PTSD Symptom Scale (CPSS) Parent Report
  • Strengths & Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ)
  • Protective Factors Survey II (PFS)

CPT

  • Life Events Checklist for DSM-5 (LEC-5)
  • PTSD Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5)
  • Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MPSS)
  • Beck Depression Inventory II (BDI)

Each treatment modality will have a training cohort of 15 clinicians. These clinicians will be expected to participate in monthly group consultation (required to attend at least 9 of 12 consultation calls) where topics on evidence-based trauma treatment, measurement-based care, advocacy, treatment fidelity, cultural humility, and self-care will be covered. Consultation calls will be for one hour a month and held on Zoom.

NOTE: If trained in TF-CBT, the clinician will also be required to complete the consultation calls for TF-CBT certification, separate from this project’s consultation calls.

Other Requirements: Clinicians must be licensed mental health providers in the Barren River region. Clinicians will be required to complete a short Post-Treatment Evaluation for each client they discharge as part of this project, as well as a survey following their participation in the project after a year.

Cost: There is no cost for the trainings, psychometric measures, or consultation. All psychometric measures are in the free domain, and therefore will be free for the clinicians to continue to utilize following their participation in the project or with other clients outside of the project.

For More Information: Contact Heather Webb, heather.webb@wku.edu with questions and if you are interested in participating in this project. An interest form must firtst be filled out, then if accepted you will be contacted to fill out an application.
