WKU History Department - Student Profiles
Emma Ward
Winner of the Lowell Harrison Scholarship
Emma is from Bowling Green, Kentucky, and is graduating in the spring of 2021. After college, Emma plans to go to graduate school and earn a Master’s Degree in Museum Studies. She wants to become a curator — maybe at one of the Smithsonian Museums. Emma is a Christian, an artist, and an avid traveler — she has been to all 50 states! She became a history major because she loves sharing stories about people. Emma wants to be able to teach others about ordinary people throughout history who did extraordinary things; she wants to inspire people today and show them that they can be extraordinary, too. Her favorite thing about being a history major is the sense of community she has in her classes. Emma feels that she can connect to her classmates and have rich discussions that she had not seen in her non-major courses. Emma believes that her professors’ engaging lectures help her retain most of the information, and she knows that she will leave WKU a better and wiser person than she was before she came to college. Her favorite historical quote is from Anne Frank’s Diary of a Young Girl: “In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart.”
Congratulations Emma!
