My interests focus on a couple of different topics and areas. First, I am trained as a scholar of 20th century United States history, and my focus is the period from 1932 to 1972. I have always considered this time frame to be transformative politically and culturally, and I am especially interested in my hometown of Chicago and its history during this time. More recently, my attention has turned to Military History. Here, my primary concentration is on World War I era, and how the global implications of this conflict continue to reverberate well into the modern era. Finally, I have a teaching and research field in Kentucky History.
In addition to the first half of the World History survey (History 101), I teach our classes in Military History:
History 299: Introduction to Military History
History 398: War and Society to 1500
History 399: War and Society since 1500
History 423: A Global History of the First World War
History 426: Hitler and Nazi Germany
History 449: Korea and Vietnam
History 494: United States Military History
I am currently working on a class on World War II, and I am developing online, on-demand versions of several of my classes.
In the Department of History, I am a member of our undergraduate advising team, run our social media accounts, and sponsor the History Club and Phi Alpha Theta Honor Society. Finally, I am advisor of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, and serve as Department liaison to the WKU Greek community as well as the WKU ROTC.
