Pysanky Workshop Has Been Cancelled

It's the season for decorating eggs!

Susan Calloway Nimersheim, Instructor

12pm - 4pm
$60 Member fee   $70 Non-member fee

Pysanky is a Ukrainian Easter egg, decorated with traditional Ukrainian folk designs using a wax-resist (batik) method. The word pysanky means "to write", as the symbolic designs are not painted on, but written with beeswax. The design motifs on pysanky date back to pre-Christian times - many date to early Slavic cultures - and is a celebration of Spring and especially Easter. This workshop will provide you with a basic background of the art and take you step by step through the making of at least one egg to take home with you. We will work with two traditional designs. You do not need any artistic skills for this class.

All materials and supplies will be provided, including eggs. This workshop ranges from beginners to experienced egg pysanky student. At least one egg will be completed and possibly two.

Susan Nimersheim finds doing Pysanky relaxing and says that it appeals to her creatively, historically and symbolically. She grew up in Bowling Green where she attended College High and BGHS. She earned a BFA in Art  from Western Kentucky University, MEd from the University of Cincinnati and MLIS from Florida State University. Susan is the director of Grant County Public Library.

This workshop is limited to 12 people.
