Kentucky Museum Volunteer Opportunities
Please review the following assignment descriptions to understand the requirements of each department and decide which ones best match your interests and abilities. You must indicate your preferred department assignments in the online application form.
In broad terms, our volunteer opportunities are either single event, or ongoing (volunteer would work with unit head to establish a weekly volunteer schedule).
Education
Single Event: Hammer In
Date: Usually the first or second Saturday in October.
Time: Event is 10AM-3PM. Two-hour volunteer shifts.
Big blacksmithing event on the Museum grounds. Attendance averages 500-600.
Single Event: Christmas in Kentucky
Date: The first Saturday in December
Time: Event is 11AM-2PM Two-hour volunteer shifts.
Family oriented with activities throughout the Museum. Santa and Mrs. Claus, Big Red, ornament making, carolers, performers, and more. Attendance averages 600-1000.
Ongoing
There are currently no ongoing volunteer opportunities in Museum Education. The unit works with a variety of graduate and undergraduate students for course credit, internships, and assistantships. Exhibits
Single Event: Celebration of the Arts-- Art Intake
Date: Typically, a Friday in mid-February
Time: 9AM-5PM Two-hour volunteer shifts.
Assisting Museum staff with the intake process as artists from off their works for the US Bank Celebration of the Arts Show.
Single Event: Hanging the Celebration of the Arts Show
Date: Typically, show is hung the week following the intake date.
Time: 9AM-4PM Two-hour volunteer shifts.
Volunteers coordinate with Museum exhibits technicians to schedule time to assist with the hanging and placement of artwork.
Single Event: Celebration of the Arts-- Art Pickup
Date: Typically, a Saturday in mid-April
Time: 8AM-5PM Two-hour volunteer shifts.
Assisting Museum staff with the return process as artists pick up their work from the US Bank Celebration of the Arts Show.
Ongoing
There are currently no ongoing volunteer opportunities in Exhibits. The unit works with a variety of graduate and undergraduate students for course credit, internships, assistantships and more.
