The real Big Red posing with his Lego likeness
Lego Big Red was built by two WKU Civil Engineering students and their professor, Jason Wilson. Jason had the idea of building a life size Lego Big Red in 2018, and enlisted students to help create.
WKU Civil Engineering student Austin Loney and Taylor Collins built Lego Big Red
Students Taylor Collins and Austin Loney used a 3D app to completely scan the real Big Red, converted the scan to a PDF, sent the PDF to the Lego Group to print over 40,000 bricks, and built the mascot layer by layer. Lego Big Red made his debut during the 2019 WKU Homecoming Parade to the delight of the crowd. Big Red is approximately 6-feet tall, weighs 350 pounds, and it took the group 500 hours to build him.
