Teaching Interests: Introduction to Criminal Justice, Corrections, Introduction to Sociology

I chose my career because I really enjoyed being a college student and learning and helping others learn.  So, it was a natural fit for me to be a college professor. My academic superhero is Dr. Meda Chesney-Lind - she is one of the best criminologists I have ever known, she is passionate about her work, and she can explain her work in a very down to earth way. While teaching, I overuse the phrase: "But that is open to interpretation...."

My favorite quote is "Privilege is when you think that something is not a problem because it's not a problem to you personally." In my free time, I enjoy weightlifting, and going to the movies.

My field is highly relevant to today’s society. "Justice impacts everyone's lives.  If people do not experience justice their dignity is decreased.  Many people watch criminal justice tv shows and movies, but few people know the basics about the criminal justice system.  It is important for every member of society to become literate in criminal justice issues so that we have a society that promotes dignity for all."
