Darnez Pope, Health Information Management faculty member from the WKU Department of Public Health, co-authored a published research study titled “Patient clinical documentation in telehealth environment: are we collecting appropriate and sufficient information for best practice?” in medical journal mHealth. The study was conducted by a team of health information management (HIM) educators and healthcare professionals through American Health Information Management Foundation Research Network.
Telehealth visits increased during the COVID-19 pandemic and will likely remain a patient visit type among various medical specialties. The surveyed 76 medical facilities in the United Stated about the telehealth services provided, including acceptance and barriers of telehealth usage. The team concluded that health informatics and information management professionals (HIIM) will need to play a role in best practices for telehealth usage, including implementation of policies and procedures in the ever-changing practice of telemedicine.
