The event will feature Joe Lowe of Oak Hollow Angus, a renowned figure in the Kentucky beef industry, who will delve into various aspects of beef production, sustainability, and the science behind it.
Mr. Matthew VanSchenkhof, instructor for the WKU Hospitality Management and Dietetics program, said, “The KY Beef Council provides interactive, fun, and educational experiences allowing our HMD students to understand where food comes from and how beef is a sustainable, nutritious, and humane food.”
With concerns rising about sustainability and environmental impact, understanding the intricacies of beef production is crucial. Joe Lowe, along with the Kentucky Beef Council, aims to shed light on this subject through an informative session.
The presentation will cover a range of topics including beef sustainability, the evolution of production methods towards sustainability over the decades, and the differences in beef quality between grass-raised and grain-finished varieties.
Mr. Lowe will also address the economics of cattle production, providing insights into the costs involved and the role of agricultural economists in the industry.
Attendees can expect a comprehensive overview of the science and practices behind raising beef for slaughter, exploring its sustainability as a protein source, and understanding the economic factors that shape the industry.
