Reinvesting in Teacher Education Initiative
Reinvesting in Teacher Education Initiative
The Reinvesting in Teacher Education initiative is making significant progress. Based on the collaborative efforts of The Core Curriculum Committee and the School of Teacher Education faculty, the following framework has university level approval in place to develop the Core Curriculum with plans for implementation Fall 20:
Five Core Courses:
-
EDU 250: Discover Teaching: Introduction to Teacher Education
-
PSY 310: Educational Psychology
-
EDU 260: Classroom Assessment
-
EDU 350: Diversity and Differentiation
-
EDU 360: Behavior and Classroom Management
Three Integrated Themes:
-
Technology
-
Literacy
-
Professionalism
During the Spring 19 semester, 6 sub-committees (one for each of the respective core courses and one for the three integrated themes) which included faculty associated with Teacher Education from across the university as well as representation from local school districts who have expertise in these respective areas conducted detailed work for this framework. Over the Summer committee leaders developed Core assignments, drafts of syllabi, aligned fieldwork to course objectives.
Integrated Themes Sub-Committee:
-
Under the direction of Dr. Marge Maxwell, great progress occurred over the summer to develop different modules that will be integrated into core courses and throughout courses across students’ respective majors. We continue to explore how to incorporate experts related to these themes across the curriculum as well as possibilities for co-teaching.
