CAPE and Curriculum Review
- Thursday, August 22nd, 2019
Good evening,
As promised, I am sending this email to provide an update on the work that we have been doing related to curriculum review and the CAPE outcomes.
Streamlined curriculum review process. Attached is a proposed streamlined process for undergraduate curriculum review. It was developed in anticipation of a significant increase in the volume of proposals that will be considered by the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee as we move through our CAPE Transformation process. This process will be initiated as a pilot as we seek Faculty Senate approval this year. The Provost’s office will schedule a meeting to describe the expedited and full review processes before the next UCC meeting. Finally, I am appreciative of the work that was done this summer to develop this streamlined review process. Thanks to Janet Applin (Chair), Collett Chelf, Alison Langdon, Danita Kelly, Alex Lebedinsky, Tony Norman, Bryan Reaka, Rheanna Plemons and Merrall Price for their willingness to tackle this during the summer.
CAPE Grow/Enhance investments. Attached is a spreadsheet with the commitments from the Strategic Investment Fund (SIF) for the first group of Grow/Enhance designated programs. In most cases, new faculty salary commitments are for the second and third year thus allowing searches to take place in the first year. These programs were chosen based on data that suggest a critical instructional need and are expected to yield a short term return on investment.
CAPE Transformation Taskforce. The Taskforce members this year will be: Ann Ferrell, PCAL; Morgan Gossett, Admissions; Tuesdi Helbig, Institutional Research; Beth Laves, DELO; Stacy Leggett, CEBS; Sharon Mutter, OCSE; Raymond Poff, CHHS; Fred Siewers, Chair OCSE; Chris Shook, Dean GFCB; and Michelle Trawick, Associate Provost. Thank you to all of you who have volunteered to serve. This work will be so impactful. I am looking forward to it!
Finally, students are moving into residence halls, faculty and staff meetings have been happening all week, and tomorrow night is the MASTER Plan Convocation. We are off to a great start! Have a great semester!
Sincerely,
Cheryl Stevens
