The WKU Enactus Team earned a berth in the 2016 Enactus National Exposition after competing this past weekend at the Enactus Regional Competition, winning a top three ranking.

The team presented three distinct projects:

• Change the Kentucky State learner’s permit written exam allowing Burmese refugees to hear a translation in their native dialect
• Connect dental health students with prospective patients to lower the rates of dental disease in Kentucky
• Empower Hispanic entrepreneurs in the Bowling Green community through Project Adelante, which has already created four new businesses, enabling $125,000 in new payroll

Thirty-one teams from across country competed in one of six leagues. The presentation team of Kendall Allen, Ryan Purk, Adabella Nunez, and Grant Shepherd were joined in Atlanta by fellow student team members Allan Moreno, Chia Shen, Dharti Patel, James Thomason, Jessica Henao-Barragan, Jia Ong, Nidhi Shetty, and Sol Govin. Sam Walton fellow and Enactus faculty adviser J. Krist Schell and WKU faculty member Dr. Evelyn Thrasher also traveled with the team.

Enactus team members were able to speak with corporate recruiters from international companies, and two members received full-time job offers from Walmart.

The trip was sponsored by the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and the Gordon Ford College of Business. The Enactus movement is the world’s largest student organization with approximately 1,500 teams at colleges and universities internationally. Enactus teams use the positive power of entrepreneurship to create sustainable solutions for their partners with the goal to teach people to fish for a day so they can fish for a lifetime.
