Enactus Team Competes in Nationals
- Monday, May 23rd, 2016
The 2016 WKU Enactus Team competed at the 2016 Enactus National Convention in St. Louis Missouri. The team presented projects that created four new Hispanic-owned businesses in Bowling Green, started a statewide translation initiative to allow pre-literate speakers to take the Kentucky state written driver’s exam, and connected WKU Dental Clinic students with those in the WKU community who need dental health evaluations.
“I’m so proud of the work our team has done this year, especially since most of us are very new to Enactus, and the ways we were able to build relationships with the national corporate sponsors during the career fair. And especially how hard Kendall Allen and her leadership team has worked to get us here,” said Adabella Nunez, new Chief Executive Officer for the Enactus team
The Enactus team is sponsored by the Gordon Ford College of Business and the Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation. “Having our team progress through the regional competition to the Nationals is evidence of the hard work and dedication of our students this year,” said Dr. Dawn Bolton, Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation Director.
Team members traveling to St. Louis were Sulaiman Alhudaithy, Kendall Allen, Jessica Henao-Barragan, Rita Kuanyin, Justin Nolan, Adabella Nunez, Jia Ong Ong, Subarna Pandit, Ryan Purk, Chia Shen, Grant Shepherd, James Thomason, and Aaron Woodlee. Team adviser Mr. J. Krist Schell and Dr. Evelyn Thrasher accompanied the team.
Enactus is a worldwide student organization made up of teams from universities and colleges which use the power of entrepreneurship to create sustainable economic benefits. Enactus at WKU has been active since 2003 and regularly places its members in internships and permanent positions with Enactus sponsors. This year two team members will join Walmart at its Bentonville, AR, headquarters in June. The WKU team meets Monday afternoon at 5 p.m. in Room 242 of Grise Hall during the academic year.
The Gordon Ford College of Business is a top business school with dual AACSB accreditation in both business and accounting programs.
