The Gordon Ford College of Business’ Department of Economics has been ranked the ninth most prolific regional research department in the South by economics education researchers. The ranking measures the scholarly output of a department’s five most productive faculty, which they call the “core.” WKU’s ranking indicates that, despite its size, that it maintains a productive research stream as compared to approximately 200 regional universities in the southern United States.

“The faculty place high value on research and remaining current in the economics field,” said Dr. Cathy Carey, Economics Department Chair. “It benefits us both professionally and in the classroom. To receive a Top 10 recognition by our peers in the discipline is exciting and reflects well on the Department’s research efforts.”  

“We are proud of the external validation that recognizes the research capacity of our faculty,” said Dr. Jeff Katz, Dean of the GFCB. “As an applied College of Business accredited in business and accounting by AACSB International, our faculty are among the very best in the world. We take pride in supporting our faculty, who are making valuable contributions to their disciplines through research.”

The ranking was developed by Franklin G. Mixon Jr., of Columbus State University’s Center for Economic Education, and Kamal Upadhyaya of the University of New Haven.  The ranking was published in the Economics Bulletin.
