WKU Department of Finance to Host Personal Financial Planning Symposium

Five of the country’s top experts in the financial planning profession are scheduled to converge upon the Carroll Knicely Conference Center on Wednesday, February 7, to share knowledge and advice with more than 150 financial planning professionals and students at the WKU Personal Financial Planning Symposium.
The day begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 4:30 p.m. and will provide qualified attendees with six hours of Certified Financial Planning Continuing Education credit.
Speakers for the day include:
Kathy Jones is Senior Vice President, Chief Fixed Income Strategist for Schwab Center for Financial Research, where she is responsible for credit-market and interest-rate analysis, as well as fixed income education for investors at Schwab. Ms. Jones regularly appears on Fox News, CNBC, and CNN, and is quoted regularly in The New York Times, Reuters, Bloomberg, and others. She has an MBA in finance from Northwestern University. Her session is entitled, “Fixed Income Outlook 2018: Bond Bears Awakening.”
Michael Kitces is a Partner and Director of Research for Pinnacle Advisory Group, a private wealth management firm located in Columbia, Maryland, that oversees approximately $1.8 billion of client assets. He publishes the popular financial planning industry blog, Nerd’s Eye View through his website Kitces.com, and was recognized with one of the Financial Planning Association’s “Heart of Financial Planning” awards for his dedication and work in advancing the profession. His sessions are: “Cutting-Edge Tax Developments and Opportunities” and “An In-Depth Look at Portfolio Rebalancing Strategies.”
Kahne Krause is Regional Director and Vice President for Dimensional Fund Advisors, which partners with the largest U.S. based FAS clients. She previously worked at Walt Disney Imagineering, where she woked on the design and installation of theme park attractions at Disney parks worldwide. Ms. Krause is a CFA charterholder and holds an MBA from the Anderson School of Management at UCLA. Her session will focus on: “Women and Wealth: Trends, Unique Needs, and Effective Communication.”
Ron Rhoades serves as the Program Director for the WKU Financial Planning Program, where he teaches courses in finance, retirement planning, estate planning, and investments. He is an estate planning and tax attorney as a member of the Florida Bar. Dr. Rhoades travels frequently to Washington, D.C. to meet with policy makers on the application of fiduciary standards and is often quoted in industry and consumer publications. His blog, ScholarFP.blogspot.com, is followed by thousands of financial advisors. His session is entitled: “Planning for Qualified Plan and IRA Rollovers Under the Scrutiny of Regulators.”
Bob Veres is editor and publisher of the Inside Information interactive guide to trends and innovations in the profession, and contributing editor and columnist for Financial Planning magazine, which has garnered him several national awards over his 30-year career. Mr. Veres was named one of the most influential people in the financial planning profession by both Investment Advisor and Financial Planning magazines. He also was recognized with one of the Financial Planning Association’s “Heart of Financial Planning” awards for his dedication and work for advancing the profession. Mr. Veres will speak on “The New Profession.”
